Understanding Body Mass Index (BMI)
The NoLoginTool BMI Calculator provides a simple way to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems. By entering your height and weight, we calculate a score that places you into one of four categories: Underweight, Normal, Overweight, or Obese.
BMI for Men vs. Women
A common question is whether BMI is calculated differently for men and women. For adults (18+), the calculation is exactly the same. However, women naturally tend to have more body fat than men at the same BMI. This tool is designed for adult men and women.
What is "Ideal Weight"?
Your ideal weight range is simply the weight at which your BMI lands between 18.5 and 24.9. If you are outside this range, our tool automatically calculates exactly how many kilograms (or lbs) you need to lose or gain to enter the healthy zone.
Limitations of BMI
Does this work for bodybuilders?
No. BMI does not distinguish between muscle mass and fat. An athlete or bodybuilder might have a high BMI (classified as overweight) despite having low body fat and being very healthy.
