What is the average Digit Span?
The average person can hold 7 digits in their short-term memory at once. This is known as Miller's Law. This test measures your working memory capacity by progressively adding more digits until you fail.
Score Guide
- Level 1-5: Below Average. Keep practicing!
- Level 7: Average Human. This is the standard capacity for short-term memory.
- Level 10+: Superior. You have excellent focus and retention skills.
- Level 14+: Genius / Mnemonist. You likely use advanced memory techniques.
How to improve your score?
The best way to improve is to use Chunking. Instead of trying to remember "492837", break it down into chunks like "492 - 837". This tricks your brain into treating multiple digits as a single "item" of information.
