Why Check Your IP Address?
Your Public IP Address is your digital passport. Websites use it to determine your location (Geolocation) and Internet Service Provider (ISP). You might need to check your IP to:
- Verify if your VPN is working correctly.
- Whitelist your connection for a server or firewall.
- Debug network connectivity issues.
IPv4 vs. IPv6
Most internet addresses today are IPv4 (e.g., 192.168.1.1), which allows for about 4 billion unique addresses. However, as the internet grows, we are running out of space. IPv6 is the new standard (e.g., 2001:0db8:85a3...), allowing for a virtually infinite number of devices to connect.
Public vs. Private IP
This tool shows your Public IP (what the internet sees). Your Private IP is what your router assigns to your specific device (usually starting with 192.168.x.x) and is not visible to the outside world.
