Free Text Encoder & Decoder Playground — ROT13, Morse, URL & More

Developers, puzzlers, and radio hobbyists constantly convert text between representations: URLs need percent-encoding, APIs speak Base64, old-school ciphers use ROT13, and Morse code still charms. This playground performs ten transformations — reverse, ROT13, URL encode/decode, Base64 encode/decode, Hex encode/decode, and Morse encode/decode — with live output as you type, powered by native browser APIs like encodeURIComponent, btoa, atob, and TextEncoder.

How to Use the Playground

  1. Type or paste input — results update on every keystroke, no button needed.
  2. Pick an operation — switch freely; decoding is just another option in the same list.
  3. Swap to chain operations — the Swap button feeds output back as input, so you can URL-encode then Base64-encode in two clicks.

What Each Encoding Is For

ROT13 rotates letters by 13 places — a classic spoiler-hider and puzzle cipher, trivially reversible. URL encoding converts unsafe characters (encodeURIComponent) so text survives inside links and query strings. Base64 packs binary-safe ASCII for tokens and embeds at ~33% overhead. Hex renders bytes for debugging hashes and binary protocols. Morse maps letters to dots and dashes with / separators for word breaks — the same code that carried the first long-distance messages.

Why did Base64 decode fail?

Base64 strings must use the standard alphabet with correct = padding. URL-safe variants (using - and _) and line breaks from email clients both break naive decoders — strip whitespace and try again.

How do spaces work in Morse output?

Letters are space-separated and words use /, following international convention. Decoding reverses the same scheme, so round-trips are exact for A–Z and 0–9.

Is ROT13 encryption?

No — it is obfuscation, reversible by anyone instantly. Never protect real secrets with ROT13; use it for spoilers, puzzles, and Easter eggs only.
